The Benefits of using Pallet Trucks in your Warehouse and Operational Setting…

Pallet trucks, also known as pump trucks or pallet jacks, are specialised pieces of warehouse equipment. Pump trucks generally have four to eight wheels for safe and easy maneuvering. Specifically designed to manoeuvre and lift heavy loads efficiently and safely in warehouses, distribution centres, and indeed all operational settings. Also, they are essential for easy loading of pallets on and off of vehicles. Pallet jacks work best on flat surfaces or very slight inclines. Pallet Trucks really are crucial pieces of equipment for the loading and unloading of pallets and heavy loads. They are much preferred over manual handling, which can cause strain and injury to the operator.

What are pallet trucks?

Generally, for standard pallet trucks, there are two different kinds of pallet trucks – manual and electric. Manual pallet trucks arehand operated by the operator, whereas electric pallet trucks have a powered lift system, therefore taking a lot of the strain away from the operator. To operate a manual pallet truck, the operator needs to use their own strength and ability to manoeuvre the forks into the pallet or underneath a skid. The hand-jack on the pallet truck is manually used to raise the pallet from the floor to the necessary height, allowing the pallet to be moved in a safe manner.

The main benefits of using pallet trucks…
  • Pallet trucks are much safer than manually handling heavy goods

It is indeed fact that most workplace injuries occur whilst handling heavy loads. The benefits of using pallet trucks means many warehouse injuries can be avoided by using a pallet truck which is right for your needs. This includes choosing the right size for your warehouse and for your maximum load capacity. It is therefore imperative that you choose a pallet/pump truck that can be easily operated by anyone who is trained to use one.

If pallet trucks are used correctly as per training, which should be given to all of your operators, they will be much less likely to suffer injury or cause an accident. This will of course reduce costs which relate to any operator’s injury.

It is essential that all of your operators are trained to use warehouse handling equipment correctly. This includes pallet trucks, so that the risk of injury is reduced whilst using the truck. Therefore ensuring all operators have the knowledge and confidence to use the trucks safely.

  • Pallet trucks are cost efficient

Pallet trucks are an extremely cost efficient piece of equipment for warehouse and operational needs. Furthermore, they require a lot less maintenance than a forklift truck. Furthermore, no additional cost for electricity to keep them operating. Even charging an electric pump truck battery is so much cheaper than charging the larger forklift truck.

  • Pallet trucks optimise performance

Pallet trucks are designed for loading and off-loading loads within your warehouse or operational setting. Depending on the model you choose, they can handle various weights. And this allows for…

  • Operators work with less fatigue, allowing them be more productive
  • Using a pallet truck, operators save a lot of time when loading and unloading goods
  • Heavy loads will be handled and manoeuvered with ease, which is much safer than trying to handle the loads by hand
  • Pallet trucks are extremely versatile pieces of handling equipment

Pump trucks are much more versatile than a forklift truck. Firstly, pallet trucks are much smaller than a forklift truck, which means they can easily move around smaller spaces and tight corners with ease. They also come in a vast array of different models – such as longer fork lengths, low profile, heavy duty trucks, weigh scale models, galvanised which are great for a lot of outdoor use, stainless steel for when hygiene is paramount such as food production and pharmaceutical companies, and so much more. This making a pallet truck ideal for a wide range of industries, such as manufacturing plants, speciality and retail stores, food production & pharmaceutical companies, factory floors and warehouse facilities. There is indeed a pallet truck that will suit every industry.
